👋🏼 Hey there! It's nice to meet you.
My name is Geneve, pronounced like Geneva without the "a" sound. I like to think of myself as an honorary Bostonian, I attended Boston University's College of Communication and graduated May 2021 with a Bachelor's in Mass Communication, specifically Public Relations. I am passionate about using communications as a bridge to connect people and fostering innovative changes through media.
Here's my story:
I was born in the land of potatoes and the blue turf (also known as Boise, Idaho), and raised by my parents, who immigrated from Guangzhou, China and started their restaurant here. As a first-generation college student, getting to attend a well-renowned institution like BU has been a rewarding experience I am grateful for.
I like to take the skills I have learned in my courses and apply them to the real world. My very first internship was the summer of my freshman year, where I worked in Integrated Marketing at Her Campus Media. That following school year, I helped the Marketing and Digital Communication department at my own college, BU's College of Communication, in developing content for our social media channels. The next summer, I gained experience working at a crowdfunding startup Thropic, where I served as a Digital Marketing Specialist. At the height of the COVID-19 pandemic, I began my first remote internship with double e public relations, where I worked to earn media coverage for our creative clients, such as Fitch, The Social Element, and Turner Duckworth. Most recently, I wrapped up a second remote internship with Kel & Partners, where I worked with clients like Stop & Shop and Cumberland Farms to get top national and regional coverage.
In my last semester of college, I joined Weber Shandwick's New York City office as a remote intern in the Enterprise/Technology Practice. After my graduation, I joined the team full-time as a Junior Associate, and was promoted to Associate and now my current role as Senior Associate.
I am so thankful for the opportunities that BU has given me, so I felt like giving back and mentoring younger students was only fitting. My first summer after my freshman year, I served the role as Student Advisor of Orientation, where I guided students to integrate to campus life, advised them on what courses to take and gave them tips for adjusting to college. Additionally, I served as Co-Coordinator for COM's Dean's Host program, otherwise known as the COM Ambassadors. As a part-time job, I sit in the Undergraduate Affairs Office for COM, helping triage advise students on anything from major and minor requirements, to study abroad. As a resource and mentor to other first generation students like myself, I served as a Peer Mentor for First Year Programs in a special first-gen specific section, creating programs and compiling resources to guide these students in their first semester on campus.
On the side, I have been developing my personal brand on social media for several years now and have had the pleasure to work on paid and unpaid campaigns with a variety of brands, such as Daniel Wellington, Primark USA, Homesick candles, SiriusXM, Rent the Runway, Keurig, and Hallmark. I am very experienced in influencer relations and social media management from both perspectives.
What do you do away from the screen?
While I admit it is hard to catch me away from binge-watching true crime documentaries, Catfish, or Refinery29 videos, I'm often found feverishly flipping through another novel on my Kindle or rearranging some corner in my room. I love interior decorating and creating beautiful spaces. Also, growing up on roadtrips means I have a soft spot in my heart for the outdoors, whether that be hiking or biking. And every day, you can catch me on my yoga mat for at least 30 minutes to an hour, practicing my balance and clearing my mind with a good round of vinyasa. My favorite way to explore a new city is via coffee shops, and you can track me visiting every coffee shop I could possibly find in Boston (and some in other areas) over the course of two years on my Instagram blog, Bean Happens.
